Carlos Alcaraz Defeats Novak Djokovic to Win Wimbledon Title

Spanish sensation stuns Djokovic in four sets, ending Serb's decade-long dominance at All England Club

Alcaraz, 19, becomes youngest Wimbledon champion since 2016, cementing his status as a rising star in tennis

Carlos Alcaraz upset the odds on Sunday, July 10, 2023, defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win his first Wimbledon title. The 19-year-old Spaniard became the youngest Wimbledon champion since Andy Murray in 2016, and the first male teenager to win a Grand Slam title since Rafael Nadal in 2005.

Alcaraz's victory ended Djokovic's decade-long dominance at the All England Club. The Serb had won six of the last seven Wimbledon titles, and had not lost a Wimbledon final since 2013. Alcaraz's victory also marked the first time that Djokovic had lost a Grand Slam final in straight sets since the 2016 Australian Open.

Alcaraz's win was a stunning upset, as Djokovic had been the overwhelming favorite going into the final. However, Alcaraz played with remarkable composure and aggression, and he never allowed Djokovic to settle into a rhythm. The Spaniard broke Djokovic's serve three times in the first set, and he took the second set with ease. Djokovic fought back in the third set, but Alcaraz broke his serve in the ninth game and served out the set to win the match.
